Escultura 1 d'Octubre per ART Sebastià Farré

Sculpture October 1st by ART Sebastià Farré

A fist as a symbol of prison and hope. Work October 1 , by Sebastià Farré

On October 1, 2023, the sculpture representing October 1, 2017, was installed in the small square of October 1, 2017. It was commissioned by the Guissona City Council to the artist and sculptor Sebastià Farré.

As he comments, “it could be represented with raised hands, ballot boxes or that image that we all have in our heads: the policeman hitting with the baton”, but in the work 1-O we see the repression and the dream of an entire people represented in the form of a cube.

A cube of stone and iron forming a fist, symbolizing repression, depicts the four fingers on one side and the creases and closed fingers of the fist on the other two. On the fourth face, where the fist meets the arm, we find the four bars of the Catalan flag .

Inside the cube is an iron knot representing the people. Every fist has a hole in its center; that hole is light, hope. When the fist is turned upward, hope grows, allowing light to enter. That is why we also find a "hole" at the top of the work, through which light enters the sculpture and illuminates the iron knot, the people.

A knot that symbolizes the union and connection that the entire town experienced on October 1st.
